Victims of Crime

Graeme Phillips sold taxi drivers personal accident protection insurance.


Instead of putting the policy in place, Graeme Phillips kept the money.


When innocent taxi drivers crashed their taxi there was no insurance policy in place to cover their loss of income and medical expenses. Victims were unable to pay for medical care, pay their rents and mortgages that in turn caused family breakdowns.


Children were often consequential victims of Graeme Phillips crimes.


The victims named in Court proceedings include: Frederick Allen LANG, Tony FALZON David HALL, John David BROOKE, Lionel John Herbert MOHR, Geoffrey Ronald LONG, Christopher Frank ALDERTON, Paul KENNETT, Peter William TOWN-HOPKINSON, Thomas Kevin HASSARD, Julie Lorraine HOPKINSON, Christopher Robert GIDDINGS, Gwenyth Anne WILLIAMSON, David STEEL.


Commerce Transcends All

In 1979 Graeme Phillips purchased 6 Hopetoun Road, Toorak VIC 3142. He moved his children into private schools, purchased an MG Sports Car and drove top of the range Mercedes Benz. Graeme Phillips and his family travelled the world extensively.


6 Hopetoun Road, Toorak has a value today of $8,000,000. The property was purchased in 1979 for $167,500. Graeme Phillips theft of $48,000 in today's value is the equivalent of over $2,000,000.


Supporting Evidence

Graeme Phillips was convicted on 12 February 1988 and sentenced to 30 months imprisonment.


He pleaded guilty to 12 counts of obtaining property by deception.
