In 1976 Graeme Phillips stole his brother Peter Phillips and new sister in law Gail’s house deposit to pay for the renovation of Graeme's house at 24 Jolie Vue Road, North Balwyn VIC 3104.
Graeme then alienated Peter from his parents Jack and Norma and siblings Dianne and Paul by inciting anger over Gail being previously married and then by being a stay at home house wife.
For the next 45 years Graeme incessantly attacked Peter & Gail’s credibility by defaming them to his wife Diana, his children Matt, Vikki, Marc, Simon and James and to his own parents, brother and sister so as to cover up his crime.

In July 1984, Graeme's secretary, Julie Rogers, opened a letter from the Insurance Commission of Australia while Graeme and his wife and children were in Los Angeles for the Summer Olympic Games. The letter detailed that Graeme's insurance license had been cancelled, that Graeme Phillips Road Transport Insurance (GPRTI) brokerage had been terminated and that the Commission was assisting Police with their criminal investigation against Graeme. The Commission stated it was also supporting those victims who had presented themselves to police alleging that Graeme had stolen their insurance premiums instead of putting in place their personal injury income protection policy.
Between 1977 and 1984 Graeme stole in today’s value over $20 million dollars. Graeme accumulated mansions, cars, holidays, apartments, art work, mink coat, watches, furniture, race horses and private school educations for his children that were each paid for with proceeds of his crimes.
Graeme Phillips was convicted on 12 February 1988 and sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for these crimes. He pleaded guilty to 12 counts of obtaining property by deception.

Instead of telling his family the truth, Graeme told his family lies about each legal case bought against him and made up fictitious and elaborate stories about “the case”, “Bartlett”, why he went to jail and how he was “done over by crooks”.
Each story Graeme told his wife and children, incessantly for 35 years, was a lie.
Raymond Bartlett who Graeme claimed was "the crook that did him over", never did anything wrong.
Graeme relentlessly and tirelessly character assassinated Bartlett, for over 35 years, to cover up his crimes.
Graeme told the same lies that he told to his wife and children to his parents Jack and Norma and siblings Dianne and Paul.
Norma then passed on Graeme's lies to his other sibling, Peter Phillips.
Had Peter Phillips and his wife Gail known the truth as to why Graeme went to jail, they would have gone to the police themselves to report Graeme's theft of their house deposit, that in 1988 had occurred only 12 years earlier.

In 1998 Graeme (now a convicted criminal, an ex convict and bankrupt) and Matt Phillips (Graeme's son) devised a scheme to steal Stanborough Wemyss Contracting (SWC) from Ron Stanborough and David Wemyss Smyth.
It is estimated that Graeme and Matt have since stolen $9 million dollars from Ron and David.
It is a simple question to ask Matt Phillips, “how much did you pay Ron Stanborough and David Wemyss Smyth for their business?”.
Then ask Matt Phillips, “well if you didn't pay anything for it, then how did you get it?”.
Ron and David would never had agreed to go into business with Graeme Phillips had they been told the truth about Graeme's crimes.

In 2001 Graeme and Matt stole Simon Phillips (Graeme's son) 25% shareholding of SWC. Graeme and Matt then told lies about Simon to his mother Diana, and brothers James and Marc to alienate him, and ruin his credibility, just as Graeme had done to his brother Peter Phillips.
It is estimated that Graeme and Matt have stolen $3 million dollars from Simon Phillips.

In 2013 Graeme and Matt stole Natasha Phillips (Simon's wife) and Simon Phillips house deposit to pay for Crystal Cruise Sailing fares and Matt Phillips children Lachie, Annabel and Cameron’s Caulfield Grammar private school education.
Graeme and Matt then alienated Simon, Natasha and their children Georgia and Ted by telling abhorrent lies about Simon, incessantly defaming him to further destroy his credibility to his mother Diana and brothers James and Marc and this time inciting anger to again cover up their crimes.
Simon, Natasha and his children, as a direct consequence of Graeme and Matt's lies, were then abandoned by Simon's entire family.

In December 2021, 6 months before Graeme death, Simon Phillips contacted Graeme and detailed each of the aforementioned crimes (except Peter Phillips, who posthumously came forward).
Graeme and Matt then went to incredible lengths to hide Graeme's illness and subsequent death to ensure that Graeme could not be interviewed by lawyers and police.
On 31 October 2022, Peter and Gail’s son Nathan Phillips (cousin) had dinner at Simon Phillips house and told him that his father Graeme had died months earlier.
That evening, Peter and Gail Phillips told Simon that in the few months before Graeme's death, Graeme kept calling Peter telling him that: “no one in the family talks to Simon”, that “Simon has mental health issues and goes to a psychologist” and that “what Simon did to me (Graeme) and Diana in business was far worse than the criminals that did him over which was why I (he) went to jail”.
Peter says he was bemused that after 44 years, his brother Graeme started calling him.
Over the ensuing weeks, Simon Phillips explained to Peter, Nathan and Gail that the story that they had been told about why Graeme went to jail was a lie. Simon shared with them copies of Graeme's criminal file and then shared his own experience of being conned out of millions of dollars.
Peter and Gail then shared their own experience of how Graeme stole their house deposit in 1976. Gail has since explained that had they known about Graeme's crimes between 1977 to 1984, Peter would have gone to the Police to report Graeme's theft from them. A theft that caused Peter and Gail's family so much pain, loss of loved family and prevented them from buying a family home for a further 20 years.

On Wednesday 12 July 2023, Peter Phillips drove to the chemist to pick up some medicine. He was found 4 hours later unconscious in his car in a parking lot. Peter was hospitalised for many days. During this period Simon Phillips kept Peter's sister Dianne and brother Paul updated on Peter’s health because both, to this day, don’t speak to Gail.
Dianne and Paul do not speak to Gail because of the incessant lies Graeme told to incite anger against Gail so he could alienate Peter from his parents and siblings and cover up his theft from them.
Graeme didn’t just steal money, he stole the lives and relationships of so many loved ones and kept them apart.
Graeme's legacy continues today because the lies he told to manipulate loved ones still causes rifts between family.
Graeme Phillips was a very, very good conman who convinced those around him that those he stole from were the bad people.
Peter, Gail, Nathan, Scott and Justin as a consequence of Graeme's lies have never had a family relationship with: Paul, Di, Taylor and Tegan; Dianne, Daryl, Nicole and Damian; Graeme, Diana, Matt, Vikki, Marc, Simon and Jim because of the lies Graeme told incessantly.
Peter, Gail, Nathan, Scott and Justin have been abandoned.
Simon and Natasha Phillips and their children Georgia, Ted and Austin have now experienced the same loss, because of the lies Graeme, aided by Matt, have told to cover up their crimes.
Simon, Natasha, Georgia, Ted and Austin have been abandoned.
Graeme, and now his son Matt, are evil conmen, who destroy families to cover up their crimes because, "commerce transcends all".
